Apple Slump
This recipe is an updated version of the "Apple Slump" recipe Louisa May Alcott (famous author who wrote "Little Women") loved so much that she named her home in Concord, Massachusetts "Apple Slump".
6 cups (about 6 medium sized apples) peeled and sliced apples
3/4 to 1 cup sugar (depending on tartness of apples)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 cup water
1 (4 ½ ounce) can refrigerated buttermilk biscuits
1. In a large saucepan combine the apple slices, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and water.
2. Heat to boiling.
3. Separate the biscuits (best if you use only 6) and place on top of the apples.
4. Reduce the heat, cover and simmer on low about 10 to 12 minutes or until the biscuits are no longer doughy. The biscuits won't brown.
5. Invert (turn over) the biscuits.
6. Spoon the biscuits and apples into dessert dishes.
7. Spoon cooking sauce over the biscuits.
8. Serve with cream or just alone. Makes about 6 servings.
