This topping is good for dressing up vegetables (esp. green beans, broccoli and asparagus), sautéed mushrooms or cooked noodles.
1 cup fine dried bread crumbs
1/4 cup butter or margarine (melted)
Choose your seasonings: minced fresh parsley, chopped chives or onion, shredded cheese, chopped hard boiled eggs.
Mix the bread crumbs with the melted butter (in a small saucepan). Spread in a shallow baking pan (cookie or jelly roll) and put in a 300 degree oven. Stir often for 10 minutes or until browned. Remove from oven and add your choice of seasonings (see above). Sprinkle over food just before serving.
