Coffee Cake

1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 cup milk
1 1/2 cups flour

Nut mixture:

1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
1 tablespoon butter
1/2 cup nuts (chopped)(walnuts or pecans)
1 tablespoon flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream butter, sugar and eggs. Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with the milk. Put half of the mixture in a greased 8 x 8 inch pan. Sprinkle half of the nut mixture onto the batter in the pan. Cover with the remaining batter and sprinkle with the rest of the nut mixture.

Bake for 30 to 35 minutes until top is golden brown.
