Dream Bars 3
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
1 cup flour
Almond Coconut Topping (see below)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
1. Cream shortening and brown sugar until well blended.
2. Stir in the flour.
3. Press with your hand into an ungreased 9 x 13 pan. Flatten until smooth.
4. Bake for 10 minutes.
Almond Coconut Topping:
2 eggs (well beaten)
1 cup brown sugar (packed)
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 tablespoons flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup shredded coconut
1 cup slivered almonds (can use chopped pecans or walnuts)
1. Mix eggs, sugar and vanilla until light in color.
2. Gradually mix in flour, baking powder and salt.
3. Stir in the coconut and almonds.
4. Spread over baked layer.
5. Bake for 25 minutes or until top is golden brown.
6. Cool then cut into bars.
7. Makes about 2 1/2 dozen bars.
