Ginger Pear Crisp
Ginger Pear Crisp is a dessert you don't hear about very often. Use the Bosc variety of pear if it is available. Crystallized ginger is available in the produce section in most grocery stores.
4 large ripe pears (sliced)
2 tablespoons crystallized ginger (finely chopped) or
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 cup butter or margarine
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease an 8 x 8 or 9 x 9 inch square baking dish.
1. Arrange pear slices in bottom of baking dish.
2. Sprinkle chopped ginger evenly over the pears.
3. Measure flour out without packing it in the measuring cup.
4. In a medium bowl combine the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg.
5. Using a fork or pastry blender cut in the butter until the mix is crumbly.
6. Sprinkle crumb mixture over the pears.
7. Bake in preheated oven for 20 to 30 minutes or until the pears are tender and topping is a golden brown.
8. Serve warm with whipping cream.
