Mrs. K's Crisp Oatmeal Cookies

1 cup shortening
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup brown sugar firmly packed
2 cups flour
2 eggs
1 cup uncooked oatmeal
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 cups crispy rice cereal (Rice Krispies)
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup raisins
1/2 cup walnuts (optional)

Cream shortening, sugars, eggs, baking soda, vanilla, baking powder and salt until light colored and fluffy. Mix in flour, do this gradually. Stir in oatmeal, Rice Krispies, raisins and nuts (optional) – use a large spoon to do this. Drop by the heaping teaspoons (the one you eat with, not the measuring spoon) on a lightly greased cookie sheet.

Bake in a 350 degree oven for about 12 to 15 minutes or until a light golden brown. This recipe makes about 6 dozen cookies.
